12 Days of Christmas

So it's taken 12 days, but I'm back and in action. I started the new job, but I'm not going to discuss it on this lovely blog because I'm pretty sure that anything I say can and will be used against me in a court of law. But I've worked for 6 days so far and I'm still alive (sort of) so I guess it's going well. I really have to learn to get used to the quiet. Quiet is not something I enjoy, nor is it something I'm used to, especially in a work environment. At my old job, it was completely acceptable to scream through cubes, yell at people who weren't giving you subpoenaed information and scream into the offices across the hall...In the new job, I don't think any of that is acceptable and if it is, I have not seen any co-workers partake in those activities as of yet. But that's okay, maybe Ivy league grads actually work at work...this is a novel concept, maybe it will rub off on me.

My birthday was yesterday...I'm old. My birthday also happens to be Christmas Day and since 75% of my family is in Virginia, that's where my birthday festivities have taken place since forever. In VA, we all (approximately 20) stay in one house and it's always an adventure, for example, yesterday my mother was entirely too eager to point out that I'm no longer in my 'early twenties' and my grandmother told me I looked like "Pretty Woman" (my response was before or after she was a hooker?) In her defense, she's 85 years old and swears she meant Julia Roberts, but couldn't think of her name...I'm still not 100% convinced. I also had an uncle greet me by asking "Did you just wake up?"...And I hadn't; I was dressed, made-up and my hair was done. I also lived in VA for a summer as an intern, so there are other people that I have to make it a point to see while I'm down there. It really is a jam packed 2 1/2 days. Even though they are all freaking nuts, my family really is wonderful. My family is made up of some of the most incredible people...we have amazing athletes (some even in the MLB Hall of Fame), beauty queens, politicians, business owners, investors, entrepreneurs and so one and so forth...and when you put all of us under one roof, it's bound to be a good time. Of course we have the same crazies every other family has, but with wine, family and Catch Phrase, you really can't go wrong.

Currently it's blizzarding here, I have NO idea how I'm getting to work tomorrow. I would love to not go, but on my 7th day of work, that looks a little shady, no? And I have to leave early on Thursday to go to the PINSTRIPE BOWL...whooo hooo....Go Syracuse!!!

I've been thinking about my New Years Resolution and I have a few already picked out...I'll post them on January 1.

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!

Lady of Leisure

I'm officially terrible at this blog thing...it's really hard to get into the habit of writing every single day...especially because I really don't think my life is that exciting, so I find it extremely hard to believe that others read this nonsense.

But yesterday was my second day off (of three days off)and I had a very successful day. I stocked up on new work clothes...and I'm happy to report that ALMOST everything was on sale...I bought one blazer that was full price. But it would've been a perfect shopping experience if that one stupid, adorable navy pinstripe blazer from Banana Republic was on sale...but oh well, it wasn't and I loved it, so I bought it. Along with the suit skirt, shoes, pants, tops..you get the idea.

After my shopping experience I came home to wrap the remainder of Christmas presents...I LOVE WRAPPING PRESENTS. I actually started thinking about renting out my services to those who despise wrapping, because it's just wrong for someone to hate something that brings me so much joy...renting myself out would be a win win...that also could be considered wrapping prostitution, but that's a debate for another day. I have pictures of my beautiful presents, I'll post them later! I also got to give two special little people in my life their presents yesterday...it's so fun to be the one to break all the rules with them (I've been babysitting them since I was 12...the oldest is now 13...I'm old). Their mom came home and said "Meredith, you let them open their presents!?!?! It's not even a week before Christmas!??!?!" ...Sorry! They loved them and it was completely worth it. It's torture to leave a present in front of someone with their name on the little tag and expect them to wait..I wouldn't.

This is my last day as a lady of leisure...I'm going to get a haircut and find NYE shoes...then go watch a 6-8th grade basketball game. The same 13 year old from above is actually a really good basketball player (her mom played in college)and I can't wait to watch her lead the team as an 8th grader.

Bittersweet...

So I'm officially done with work as a public servant..but I'm kind of sad about it! I am REALLY going to miss some of the people that made work so fun on a daily basis. Hopefully there will be people that are just as entertaining in my new office...but we won't know until Wednesday...which is my new official start date!!

I learned a few very important lessons yesterday, that I would like to share with the world. I even put them in commandment form for easy reference:

One should NOT drink champagne at 4 pm, while at work and expect the night to end well.
One should also NOT order carafes of wine because they are 'on sale'.
One should not drink wine if they are sad.
One should NOT I repeat NOT have a chips and guac appetizer, share it with three people and forgo dinner and continue to drink.

You would think these are life lessons that college would teach you...but I was ill prepared for the going away party last night...to say the least. I think I'm switching back to vodka...Chardonnay and I aren't going to be friends for a while. Fortunately, I have fantastic friends that take care of me...and even close my bar tab. I pretty much owe A and C drinks for a year.

So it's my first day off...What am I going to do you ask? SPA. I'm getting my first facial..I'm super excited. I'm also going shopping for new work clothes...my new office is a little bit fancier than my old place and I can't wear jeans on Fridays :-(

TGIF.

Sad News...And Great News!

First and foremost...I need to honor Elizabeth Edwards. She is the epitome of strength; aside from the obvious loss to her family and friends, our country lost a fantastic cancer spokeswoman. Having dealt with cancer, I appreciate everything she did to make others aware that cancer isn't always a death sentence and that with faith and determination you can kick cancer's ass and continue to live your life in a positive way. We need to find a cure people.

Now on to the good news...(7/8) SYRACUSE BEAT (8/7) MICHIGAN STATE! A lot of people doubted my Orange. Others were saying this game would be a 'wake up call to show the country we were overrated'....well you were all wrong. Scoop Jardine (19 pts) and Rick Jackson (17 pts, 16 rebounds)were unstoppable...yes Triche missed a dunk and yes there were A LOT of turnovers (11)...but we won and showed the NCAAM world that we are a force to be reckoned with.

And finally...Glee made me SO happy last night...though there wasn't a ton of Blaine...there was plenty of Christmas cheer! 17 days left!

I kind of Love T.B. (not tuberculosis)

…I know, I know. Could my post title be anymore lame? I don’t care…laugh it up! After the way Mr. Brady played last night, the least I could do is entitle a little blog post after him. He destroyed the Jets…and I loved every minute of it. I think it’s fair to say that not only is he much better looking than Peyton Manning, but on a much better football team

So this weekend I started my Christmas shopping…I love getting presents for people and I love watching them open their gifts, but I hate when someone has literally everything and when you ask what they would like for Christmas they reply “nothing”. I know you don’t want “nothing” for Christmas…you’d be pretty sad on Christmas morning when everyone around you is opening up their presents and you just have to sit and watch…and you being sad on Christmas defeats the entire purpose of it being Christmas, the fun, cheerful holiday (and yes Mom, this is completely directed towards you). As of right now, my mother has 1 present to open…ONE…that’s unacceptable. Some may argue that I can give her my unconditional love…but she does irritate me from time to time, so my love seems kind of ‘semi-conditional’…so I can’t even give her that. When I do think of a perfect gift, you can be sure I will post it.

Random information for the day…DO NOT go to a drug testing facility in Brooklyn. I had to get a drug test done for my new job/background check and they tried to make it convenient for me by picking a location close to home…I called and switched it to somewhere closer to work because I’m a dedicated employee and didn’t want to take a day off to pee in a cup. Let’s just say I didn’t remove my coat, hat or scarf and removed my gloves only on principle. It was dirty, I had to pee with the door open and adjacent to the waiting room and couldn’t wash my hands or flush…SO GROSS. I’d rather sign an affidavit stating that I’m drug free…or do just about anything to prove I’m drug free, if it meant never ever going back to that clinic.

Tonight’s Glee is ‘A Very Glee Christmas’ and I am super excited! I got the Christmas CD right after it came out and wasn’t really THAT impressed with it. There are 3 good songs and I’m not really looking forward to seeing the CD played out in the show…but it’s Glee…and I love Glee…You should watch tonight’s episode…you too will fall in love with Darren Criss (aka Blaine)

Happy Friday!!

So last night I watched Grays Anatomy...I know it's old and too dramatic, but something about Meredith and Christina's relationship keeps me watching. I feel like they actually depict a lot of what people deal with in the 'growing pains' of a friendship...So I watched and was still unimpressed. I really need to ween myself off of that show. Afterwards however, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was on BRAVO and I am OBSESSED with them. All of them. I'm particularly in love with Kyle and Lisa (and Cedric)...but I love the rest of the 'wives also. More specifically...I love Kyle's dress in the opening credits and every time a new episode airs, I fall in love all over again...There's a picture of the Camilla Drawstring Mini Dress here:
On to other useless information...Did you know that Cedric and Lance Bass dated? Andy Cohen spilt the beans on his Watch What Happens Live episode last night...They might have been a hotter couple than Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. Or my friend G and his b/f T...One looks like Becks and the other has been asked if he was Taylor Lautner...MmM.

On to the weekend...I'm looking forward to celebrating the new job with Family/Friends, a MUCH needed mani/pedi and moving my best friend into her new apartment...it's the first time in 19 years that we won't be living within a mile from each other...I'm not sure how I'm going to deal. I also have to Christmas shop...a lot...I have one present bought and absolutely nothing else. I need new clothes for my new job and some nice new commuting shoes...I want these, but I can't find them in my size. Tear.

The Jets play My Patriots on MNF this week...I can NOT wait...I love me some Tom Brady. And since I'm basically out of my fantasy playoffs, I can watch the game and just cheer for my team instead of cheering for 'this teams tight end, that teams kicker and the patriots defense (which I've since traded because they blew)'.

I promise that this blog will become more substantive as times go on...but for now you'll have to deal.

Welcome!

Hello World!

I created this blog a long time ago, February of 2007 to be exact. I was still in college then, and boy has a lot changed! I blew off law school and went right to work. I decided to start posting on the blog now because I recently resigned from my current position in the public sector to start as an Executive Assistant with a big company in NYC, which is basically my dream job (aside from being a personal shopper, party planner, Judge and zoo keeper, obviously).

So a little bit about me...I love to shop, I also love anything pink, green, sparkly and animal print. The beach is one of my favorite places, after New York City and the Syracuse University Campus (I'm an alum, my heart is in Syracuse). I love college basketball, professional football and the Yankees. I love watching the news, catching up on current events, giving my opinion and smiling...A LOT. I'm sure you'll learn more about me as this blog progresses...but I think that's enough to hold you over!
